We are updating our prayer list of deployed military personnel.  If you have a loved one who is in the military in harm’s way, please email spirituality@cath-com.org or call either Church office. St. Michael is the patron saint of soldiers and will be regularly asked to intercede for the protection of our loved ones in the military. While overflow parking at a Church is always thought of as a “good problem to have”, we must ask those parking in access lanes to instead park in the two Town of Vernon lots across School Street.   Parking in the access lanes hinders emergency vehicles that must get to the Church if there is an emergency and prevents other parishioners who may have to leave quickly after Mass or during Mass in the event of a personal emergency. St. Bernard Cemetery, located on Kingsbury Avenue on the Tolland/Vernon town line, is the Catholic Cemetery that serves the four parishes of St. Bernard, St. Joseph, St. Luke and St. Matthew Parishes.  This past year the cemetery received a generous donation from the estate of a deceased parishioner. These funds have been used to install a new wrought iron fence and gates around the historic portion of the cemetery, repave the roads and make several other improvements as requested by the donor. We are looking for donations of T-Shirts (new and gently used), baseball caps, toiletries (toothpaste and toothbrushes, soap, etc.), medical supplies (band aids, children's ibuprofen and vitamins, antibiotic ointment, etc.), hair supplies (ribbons, elastics, etc.), and so on to take with us to Haiti on our upcoming trip (we leave January 31st). We are looking for parishioners who may be interested in exploring an opportunity for prison ministry in the Enfield /Somers area. Presently, Deacon Michael Torres, the chaplain at Cybulski Correction facility, is using a program which brings the word of God to those imprisoned and who are seeking to know more about God. St Matthews Preschool still has openings in their 3- and 4- year old preschool for the 2016-2017 school year.  The three year olds meet every Tuesday and Thursday from 8:45 till 11:45 am and the four year olds meet on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8:45 till 11:45 am.  We are an accredited Music Together Preschool and both the three year old class and the four year old class have a 30 minute structured music class once a week by our certified Music Together teacher Jane Roets. St. Matthew’s is in need of someone to coordinate ministry schedules for Altar Servers, Eucharistic Ministers and Lectors.  With the use of “user friendly” ParishSoft Ministry Scheduler Software, the administrator sends emails to liturgical ministers detailing the Mass times where coverage is needed.  ParishSoft Ministry Scheduler then creates the schedule.  The schedule is created every three months.  Training and a webinar are available.  If you are interested or can help, please call the Parish Office at 860-872-0200.
