Pastor's Page - July

Posted on July 21, 2019 in: Pastor's Thoughts

Dear Parish family,

July must be one of the most loved months of the year.  Brilliant sunlight, warm temperatures, family cookouts, time at the shore, fireworks, and hopefully a slower pace all describe the month of our nation’s birth.  July 2019 is also a historic month for the Churches of St. Matthew, that was consecrated in 1964, and St. Bernard that opened its doors in 1854.   On July 1st, our two parishes, along with our Sacred Heart family, became one.  This July we celebrate the birth of our new Blessed Sacrament Parish.  We will continue to have our two worship sites of St. Bernard and St. Matthew but we will be legally and canonically one parish.

We begin a time in our history that will hopefully be remembered as a time when our communities rose to the challenge and shared their resources and cooperatively and creatively built up a very strong, respectful and vibrant faith community centered on the Eucharist, the Word, and God’s mission.

As Paul writes:  In my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.  (Philippians 1:4-6)

By cooperating with His Grace, all things are possible - so let’s dream BIG!

With Peace,

Fr. Rick
