Sacrament of Baptism

Baptism is the beginning of the process in becoming a Catholic Christian.

Baptism is the first of the sacraments of initiation and introduces a person into the community.  The covenant into which the child is being initiated brings the child, not only to Christ, but to others who share the same faith commitment.

Parents wishing to have their child or children baptized at St. Matthew Church are required to attend a baptismal preparation session prior to the Baptism. Grandparents and Godparents are also invited to attend if they wish. Registration for these sessions can be made by contacting the Parish office and should be made prior to the birth of the child if possible. Sessions are held in the church hall.

Adult baptisms are celebrated at the Easter Vigil. Call the Parish office at (860) 872-0200 for Catechumenate information.

All Baptism preparation classes are held once a month in the Chapel on Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m.
